Apple TV Plus available in India starting today: Supported devices, subscription charges, and everything else

Apple announced Apple TV+ (Plus) service back in the month of March this year. Starting today, November 1, users will be able to access Apple TV+ across the world, including India. We at India Today Tech checked the Apple TV app on iPhone and found that the service is yet to be available and says it is “coming soon”. Expect the service to be available in the hours to come. It is clear that with the TV+ streaming service Apple wants to take on the likes of other premium subscription streaming applications like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video and some others.

Apple TV+ brings popular movies, shows and original TV programs to the users. The service isn’t just limited to Apple device users but is also available for some Android smart TV users as well. It should be noted that Android phone users will not be able to get access to Apple TV+. In the future more Android smart TVs will get Apple TV+ support, the company has confirmed.

The Apple TV+ offers shows across various genres like drama, horror, comedy and others to the users. Notably, Apple TV+ is a part of the Apple TV app that has been around for a while now. Apple has designed TV+ in a way so it shows personalized recommendations for movies and TV shows to the users. The recommendations are based on the user’s search on iTunes and other applications.

How much do you need to pay for Apple TV+?

Apple TV+ is available at Rs 99 per month. For now, there’s just monthly subscription available. Before subscribing, users will be given seven days of a free trial. Apple has confirmed that up to six users can use the TV+ application at a time. Users can have one subscription per Family Sharing group and the plan will be automatically renewed until cancelled.

Apple has announced that all users buying a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or Apple TV will get one-year free access to Apple TV+. Post the free 1 year users will need to subscribe to use Apple TV+.

What are the supported devices for Apple TV+?

All iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV users will be able to use the Apple TV+. It should be noted that all Apple devices will have the Apple TV app pre-installed. Besides Apple devices, the TV+ will also be available for 2019 Samsung smart TVs users, Amazon Fire TV users. Apple has confirmed that in the near future smart TVs from Sony, LG, and Vizio will get Apple TV+ support.

Apple TV+ shows already announced

Apple has already announced some shows and movies that will be available on Apple TV+. Here are some of them — Untitled CIA series, Central Park, See, Time Bandits, Amazing Stories, among others. For now, Apple hasn’t announced any Indian shows for the TV+.

The question is, will Apple TV+ be as successful as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video (in India) that offer several Indian original shows to reach more and more users? Recently Netflix launched a cheap Rs 199/month plan in India and the streaming service claims that the plan has received an overwhelming response in the country. We will have to wait for some time to see how Apple TV+ works in the country.

In India Netflix four plans — Rs 199 mobile-only plan that is limited to smartphone and tablet users only and supports only one screen at a time. The other three plans that Netflix offers are — a basic plan that costs Rs 499/month, a standard plan that costs Rs 649/month, and a premium plan that costs Rs 799/month.
