Belgian police find 12 men alive inside refrigerated lorry

Twelve men have been discovered hiding inside a refrigerated lorry in a auto park near a motorway in Belgium’s Antwerp province, local police say. Emergency services came to the scene where the lorry was parked in an motorway auto park just outside of Antwerp. Police said they found 12 adult men: 11 Syrians and one Sudanese citizen.

Belgian police say they have discovered 12 migrants hiding among fruit and vegetables in a refrigerated truck after the driver alerted authorities. “The 12 men were found safe and sound”.

The discovery came as British police investigate the deaths of 39 people whose bodies were found a week ago in another refrigerated lorry parked east of London. The lorry had travelled to the United Kingdom via the Belgian port of Zeebrugge.

She could not immediately say how many shots were fired or what type of weapon is thought to have been fired during the party . No description of a suspect was immediately available or information about whether the person or persons were in custody.

Last weekend, Belgian authorities said they had found two more trucks carrying 20 migrants, all alive.

Refrigerated lorries are often targeted because it is easier to bypass heat scanners that way, a spokeswoman for Belgian transport federation Febetra said. Lorries needed “closed and sealed” parking areas with cameras and entry points along the route to the United Kingdom, she said. The people had travelled from Brussels and were believed to be trying to reach the UK.
