EDINBURGH’S Christmas has announced it will open next week – just days after concerns were raised on social media.

Punters were left divided online at the news as some told they would be “boycotting” the event.

Taking to Facebook today, organiser wrote: “Edinburgh’s Christmas opens a week today on Saturday 16 November! See you there!”

But some were left unsure about the announcement.

One punter said: “Hope they get any issues sorted out soon so it is safe as we are all booked to go.”

While another added: “Boycotting.”

But one follower wrote: “Can’t wait to go.”

And one Facebook user stated: “Actual buzzing, we’re going.”

It comes after the city council and market organisers Underbelly had to step in to quell concerns after a photo of scaffolding was shared online.

The snap showed a construction of metal poles supporting a platform in East Princes Street Gardens.

Concerns were raised over what appeared to be unsteady wooden blocks at the base of the structure.

But the safety claim was rubbished by both the local authority and organisers Underbelly, who confirmed that safety was their “first priority”.

Last year, more than 2.5 million punters visited the festive market in the capital.

And the 2017 event generated an economic impact of £113million for Edinburgh.

The first of Glasgow’s 2019 Christmas markets is set to open today at St Enoch Square with a second set to open in George Square later this month.

It comes after itison Glasgow announced they would be launching a £1m Christmas spectacular at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in December.
