She only returns to her parent’s humble farm near Brough to keep her grounded – and also cuddle their pet hens.

But Instagram influencer Zanna van Dijk is much more than just the glamorously filtered women littering the pages of social media.

The fitness and food blogger has visited 52 countries in her 27 years on the planet after pursuing blogging as a hobby in her early teenage years.

She delved into fashion and beauty until she was aged 19 and then she decided to hone in on her niche after getting into fitness while studying at university.

“I just kind of stuck with it and by the time I graduated, I had enough of a following to move into the fitness industry and become a personal trainer,” she said.

Through her ramblings as a fitness enthusiast, Zanna has visited 52 countries to tick off her bucket list.

And she keeps her audience engaged through her Instagram pictures feed, daily stories, blog links and pictures of her travels.

But how she became and influencer is much more than ‘just a few pictures’ – and definitely took a lot of hard work behind the camera.

Zanna said: “Becoming an influencer is a case of time, consistency, defining your niche, hard work and determination.

“I have been doing this for seven years now and only went full time about four years into my fitness blogging journey.

“The secret to a perfect Instagram picture is a shot which conveys a message, which varies every day and in every scenario. It could be a photo of a plant based meal or a portrait wearing a sustainable fashion item.”

Despite her wanderlust lifestyle and posts from tropical backdrops and exotic climes, Zanna still needs to keep grounded and remember her humble beginnings in East Yorkshire.

She said: “I don’t get homesick, I have to admit that I am not the homesick type. However, I do thoroughly enjoy coming home to East Yorkshire and seeing my family.

“They live on a small holding in the middle of the countryside and it feels like a completely different pace of life to London – I need to experience it every couple of months to ground me. Plus, I love cuddling their chickens.”

Real life stories

Following her large social media presence, Zanna is still very modest when it comes to starting trends and how she perceives her 270,000 eager followers.

She originally started life as a personal trainer and realised that she was very much in demand with her niche market.

The influencer, who was shy to admit how much she earns through her social media channel, but the gig is her “full time” job, said she didn’t “make trends” because she claims that she’s “not that cool”.

However, she does agree after being asked about them so much – like intermittent fasting – she tends to talk about subjects that interest her and not always what her followers want to see or hear about.

Asked about keeping her followers engaged, she said: “I try to keep my audience engaged by posting daily on Instagram stories, being honest and open with them and sharing the highs and the lows.

“When I meet them in person it often feels like we already know each other and it breaks down barriers – I love it. It is like having a huge friendship group.”
