I have a pretty large library of books on the fashion design process, and this one is now a solid favourite. The author’s expertise in this field is outstanding and shines through on every page…and he can write! The author gained his industry experience through his own award winning designs, and internships at Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. He then went on to become a leading teacher of Fashion and Textile Design at Savannah College of Art and Design in the U.S.. In this book, he brings together this wealth of knowledge and experience, and generously shares not only the facts, but also the subtle nuances of the fashion industry and design process. The book is content rich, bringing together thoughtfully curated full colour images with a detailed overview of the fashion design process, from defining a brand, customer profile and fashion research, through to choice of materials, print and wide range of embellishments, and on to design development and presentation. There is also a great section on creating effective portfolios and resumes. Each page of this book is a learning opportunity and a pleasure to read, and the core content is also interspersed with fascinating case studies and designer profiles. In a nutshell, this is one of the best books for aspiring fashion and textile designers and should be consumed from cover to cover by all that want to step into this competitive and demanding industry.

This new book by Denis Antoine gives a much wider perspective than most books under that title. The book includes and covers the whole industry and creative processes involved in creating the products. Students, particularly at the foundation and 1st degree stages will find the information and case studies contribute to their research and ability to inform, plan and make informed decisions on their career path. A very well researched and written book which I recommend to both students and fashion libraries.
