Despite some negative reviews in the media, my daughter found this game entertaining, accessible, challenging at times and it looks great. Being based on the Avatar movies, it does capture the iconic scenery of the fictional worlds and its various flora and fauna. The level of difficulty rises gradually and there are lots of side quests to undertake along the way to the central goal of the game, these help to increase the weapon and health aspects of your character, so as well as adding to the overall play length of the game, are also beneficial. My daughter loves it and has played a lot over the last few weeks, so in terms of longevity, its reasonably good. Some people might consider themselves to be 'pro' standard and say its too easy, but for your average Joe its fine. Various levels of difficulty, from Easy to Difficult means that you could essentially play it over again with a bigger challenge.

I’m about six hours in so here are my initial thoughts. The game looks good, the flora is stunning and the landscapes are impressive. OK, that’s the good bit. The gameplay overall is just too difficult. I’m an experienced gamer who plays on normal mode but here the game was extremely difficult. Just having a bow and arrow (early on) against many enemies with assault rifles and armour doesn’t make for fun! I subsequently put the game on easy mode but unfortunately it made little difference. It doesn’t help that resources needed for health and energy are relatively rare and early in the game you have little room to store them when you do find them. The main character you play is not engaging at all. In other games the main character is usually very interesting and full of charisma (such as Kassandra or Eivor in other Ubisoft games) but here the main protagonist is somewhat vacuous and that appears to be the same for other characters in the game also. So, poor characterisation and a very difficult playing experience means that I, after six hours, am not engaged in the game at all. I shall persevere and hope I get more into it but these are my initial observations. If it gets better I shall pop back and provide an update, meantime my overall suggestion is that it is a reasonable game but you may want to wait until the price comes down - as it most certainly will..!

If you're a fan of the Avatar films you'll very likely enjoy this game. You can tell a lot of effort was put into crafting the environment and it has paid off. Pandora looks stunning and feels alive in the game. Some side quests and base raids can feel a bit tedious at times, but the main plot was engaging and integrated well with the plot of the film. It was worth the purchase just to experience flying around Pandora on an Ikran.
