Woman’s holiday snap with boyfriend inspired her 9st weight loss transformation
A woman opened up about her weight loss journey after she said she “couldn’t recognise” herself in a holiday photo.
Kate McDonough was on a trip in Prague, Czech Republic, when her boyfriend took the life-changing picture.
Although she was always curvy, the 23-year-old, from Liverpool, began to pile on the pounds in 2016 when she met boyfriend Sean Hannon.
Then the photo her partner took spurred on her transformation after the snap made her feel “sick”.
Since following the Slimming World plan, Kate lost a whopping 9st in her incredible weight loss journey.
She told Liverpool Echo: “We were in Prague, and I knew I’d put on weight but I’d just ignored it. Then Sean took a picture of me, and I saw it and I felt sick.
“I just didn’t recognise myself. I’d always been a bit bigger than everyone else, a bit curvier… I just wasn’t happy with the way I looked. I knew I had to change something.”
Kate joined the group in Merseyside in March 2018 and the weight soon began to drop off.
She explained: “I lost the first eight stone in just under a year and a half – I’m not just a pound off nine stone. It was hard work, but so worth it. I’m so much happier now.”
The Barclays worker was a size 24 at her heaviest, which is when she hated shopping for clothes.
Her family also have a history of type-2 diabetes, something that Kate feared she would get at one point in her life.
But all that changed for Kate now when she joined Slimming World after previously following the plan as a teenager.
Kate, now a size 12, added: “I found the plan really easy. I’m not fussy anyway, I love fruit, veg – all types of food.
“There’s lots of things to help you, and if you don’t like fruit and veg it’s not the end of the world, there’s lot of tips to help you.”
